Homily on the 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year B, 07/10/2018.

Prayer for the Family:

Father, we look to your guidance and order

As the pattern of all family life.

By following the example of the holy family of your son,

In mutual love and respect, may we come to the joy of our home in heaven.

(From: Prayer book with new order of mass.  By Paulines)

The Gospel today presents to us the words of Jesus on marriage that the truth of marriage dates back to the beginning of creation; the book of Genesis records: “male and female he created them” (Gen 1:27; 2:24). Then Jesus continued to say, “so they are no longer two but one, what God has joined together, let no man separate” (Mk 10:8-9).

The Second Vatican Council in its document “Gaudium et Spes” (Pastoral constitution on the church in the modern world) states: “The intimate partnership of life and love which constitutes the married state has been established by the creator and endowed by him with its own proper laws: it is rooted in the contract of its partners…God himself is the author of marriage” (No.48).

Our reflection today goes to all the marriage spouses. For the gift of the sacrament of marriage be grateful to God and remain faithful to your vocation every season of your life when there is joy or pain. Become witnesses in the midst of today’s many chall
